It's called a cowbird because it used to follow buffalo around and eat the bugs stirred up by them. Buffalo and cows are related, so that's why they're called cowbirds. I learned that at an Aullwood Audubon center class (in Englewood, Ohio).

I really like birds so this page is interesting. Thanks!
